Congratulations to Laura York, middle school teacher at Southwestern Randolph Middle School, for being selected as the “Outstanding Secondary Math Teacher of the Year” for the Randolph County School System.
Each year, the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCCTM) and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) recognize outstanding math teachers in our schools. NCCTM and NCDPI recognize and reward those teachers who make mathematics exciting, nurture their students’ enthusiasm in mathematics, motivate students to excel in mathematics, and enhance everyday classroom experiences.
The award alternates between secondary teachers and elementary teachers on an annual basis. This year’s award was given to one teacher in our school system from grades 6-12. Middle and high schools were asked to nominate one teacher who excels in the motivation and encouragement of mathematics success among his/her students.
Due to her receipt of this award, Mrs. York will receive a one-year membership to NCCTM, a personalized award, and recognition at the NCCTM State Math Conference in Greensboro this fall. In addition, Mrs. York’s name will appear in the Fall 2025 issue of the NCCTM journal, the Centroid. Furthermore, her name will be listed on the NCCTM website.
